Toll Parking Lots for Students, Faculty and Staff Members

Usage of toll parking lots

In JAIST, the toll parking lots are prepared as the following two types:
(a) The On-Campus Parking Lot and (b) The Municipal JAIST Parking Lot.
To use these two parking lots, the parking permit and the pass card is needed.
So please apply for necessary procedures.
It is impossible to use the parking lot of one type by the parking permit for the other type.
In the case of using both parking lots, two permissions for two types are necessary.

Application for usage

When parking on the toll parking lots, it is necessary to pay a parking fee, and in the case of new users, a pass card issue fee.
Issuing a pass card again is not be needed once it have been issued, unless it is lost.
It is not allowed to use the toll parking lots for faculty or staff members who live in the official residents for faculty and staff members or do not commute by vehicle.

The fee once paid will not be repaid.
Before application, please confirm user requirements, places, fees, period, etc.

Student: Students of JAIST and students of other university who research in JAIST

Faculty and Staff: Faculty and staff members who do not live in the official residents for faculty and staff members

Contractor: People who operate daily works throughout the year based on the contract with JAIST such as building cleaning, guard, facilities driving, dining room, convenience store, etc.

(The temporary users other than the above can use the free parking lot.)

*By the regulations of Nomi City, parking fees of the Municipal JAIST Parking Lot is twice for Contractors.

*Period
Year: Academic year (from April 1 to March 31 of the next year)

Month: From application date to the end of the last valid month
(The fee over months should be paid together in advance at the time of application.)

It is impossible to make a contract beyond the end of the academic year.

3. Division of eligible users in (b) The Municipal JAIST Parking Lot

The parking area of (b) The Municipal JAIST Parking Lot is divided into three parts:
the priority area for women in the 1st lot, the 1st lot except thr priority area, and the 2nd lot.
The parking areas where users can park are different according to the categories of the users.
Please refer to the following table and this map.

Because of limited parking capacity, female families of students living in Student Housing and Guesthouse cannot apply for the category "Female".

It is specially allowed to use the priority area if the applicant or his family is pregnant, or the applicant has a preschool child.

Certificate of parking space

At the times of purchasing vehicle, changing the owner of the vehicle, and changing the address of the owner, it is necessary to apply for certificate of parking space.

Before applying for certificate of parking space, please apply for the parking lot at first with required things which can be prepared at that time.
After completing the procedures of certificate of parking space, prepare the remaining required things.
Application for the parking lot do not be completed without confirmation of those things, and the parking lot can not be used.

(a) The On-Campus Parking Lot

The application in order to obtain certificate of parking space is not accepted now.

(b) The Municipal JAIST Parking Lot

Apply for certificate of parking space with the identification card and the parking permit and fill in the required items in the "Parking place usage consent certificate" at Administration of property section, the General affairs department, Nomi City government office.

The contract period is required at least whole two months from the first day to the last day for the procedures.
In addition, application of certificate of parking space in February and March is not accepted as a matter of convenience.
Because an automobile tax is imposed on the owner as of April 1, please consider the time of application such as changing the owner carefully.

After completing the procedures of certificate of parking space, the pass card for using the toll parking lots is not valid unless the vehicle number etc. is notified.
Please note that the parking lots are not available yet between permit issuance and activation of the pass card.

Certificate of parking space of commuting students, i.e. other than dormitory students is not allowed.

Automobile Insurance

Automobile insurance has two kinds of (1) mandatory vehicle liability insurance and (2) voluntary insurance.

(1) Mandatory vehicle liability insurance

Mandatory vehicle liability insurance called "自動車損害賠償責任保険" or "自賠責保険" in Japanese is automobile insurance obligated to subscribe by law.
Subscribing is imposed according to a guide when purchasing a new vehicle or taking a vehicle to a garage for inspection.
Be careful when purchasing or vehicle inspection because those who have not subscribed will be punished.

(2) Voluntary insurance

Voluntary insurance is optional automobile insurance subscribed by self-contracting with an insurance company.
Please note that voluntary insurance is NOT (1) mandatory vehicle liability insurance.

It may be impossible to deal with an accident financially if it happens.
Therefore, it is practically essential although it is called “voluntary”.
When using the toll parking lots in JAIST, it is obliged to subscribe to valid voluntary insurance in Japan.
