Research
Our mission is to minimize the damage caused by natural disasters by utilizing data analysis technology.
Developing a method to quickly identify wide damage area using radar, optical sensors,or images from drones.
Developing a method to extract information of psychological impact and needs of disaster victims from SNS data.
Developing a technology to quickly estimate the damage situation with the movement patterns change over time and space.
Education
GOKON's message
Our laboratory conducts research on various wide-area natural disasters, including earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, and landslides, with the aim of developing advanced technologies for understanding wide-area damage using satellite images, smartphone GPS, and SNS data, improving decision-making by various stakeholders in the event of a disaster, and building disaster-resistant We are also engaged in daily research to build a disaster-resistant social system based on these technologies.
Our lab was established in April 2019. We are a relatively young laboratory. Currently, we are conducting research with students from many different countries, including students from China, Indonesia, and Thailand. The main research topics our students work on are related to disaster prevention. Disasters occur at the intersection of natural phenomena (hazards) and human society. Therefore, in order to develop technologies to protect people, we must look at both physical and social phenomena. In order to solve issues where various phenomena are intricately intertwined, it is not possible to solve problems by working on only one area of research. Therefore, in our laboratory, we are challenging various necessary research areas regardless of the field, from engineering research to social science research and knowledge science research that fuses them.
If you think about "I want to start something new!", we welcome anyone who wants to start something new. If you are interested, please feel free to contact us.
