５．講演要旨

　Cache timing attacks have been proposed in 2005 as a new type of
side-channel attack. As it turns out, the Advanced Encryption Standard
(AES) is particularly vulnerable to this type of attack. In scenarios
where the attack is applicable, countermeasures are very difficult to
apply.

In this lecture, we will first review what cache timing attacks are and
how they can affect the security of the AES. We then proceed to consider
cache timing attacks against stream ciphers. The resistance of a number
of stream cipher proposals in the eStream project is discussed. Finally,
we propose some techniques that can be used by cipher designers to make
cache timing attacks more difficult.
　

６．講演者略歴　　　

Erik Zenner is a German cryptographer and IT security expert. Initially
educated as a bank clerk, he proceeded to study business and computer
science in Mannheim (Germany) and Edinburgh (UK).

His interest in electronic payment systems brought him into contact with
cryptography for the first time, ultimately changing his career. Instead
of going back to the world of finance, he did a PhD on stream cipher
security, which he finished in 2004. In the same year, he moved to
Denmark to become chief cryptographer for the software and consulting
company Cryptico.

Since 2007, he is assistant professor at the Technical University of
Denmark. His research interests include symmetric cryptography, protocol
design, and light-weight cryptography.
