Borrowing books from Ishikawa Prefectural Library

The Ishikawa Prefectural Library will be closed for special inventory as below.
You cannot borrow books from the library during the period of closure, so please complete your application online by the following deadline if you would like to borrow books from the library before the closure.

Period of closure from Monday, January 22 to Wednesday, January 31, 2024
Application deadline Noon on Wednesday, January 17, 2024

*Kindly please note that you may not be allowed to borrow books due to some other reasons such as out on loan.

*FYI, you will be able to borrow books from other public libraries in Ishikawa Prefecture as usual even during the above period.

Discontinuation of E-Journal Subscription (Wiley Online Library)

JAIST will discontinue the subscription of E-journal package provided by Wiley Online Library in the end of December, 2023 as a result of deliberation by the Library Steering Committee, taking into account the budget situation and price increase.

Please note that the e-journals provided by Wiley Online Library while subscribed will continue to be available.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we appreciate your understanding.

JAIST Book Battle Report

JAIST Book Battle was held at J-BEANS on November 9, 2023.
In this English-language event, four international students acted as fighters, giving enthusiastic five-minute presentations about their favorite books and engaging the audience in a lively discussion.
After all the presentations were over, a vote was taken and Mr. PUNYASLOKA, Saibrata was chosen as the winner, receiving a certificate and an Amazon gift card from Prof. Mizutani, Library Director.
The event was very enjoyable, and the audience learned about the appeal of several splendid books in a friendly atmosphere. A big thank you to all the fighters and audience who attended the event.

JAIST Book Battle, Witness their passion for books! (Nov. 9)

A competition in presenting favorite books, JAIST Book Battle will be held. Each of 4 Participants or fighters talks about his/her favorite book without visual aids in 5 minutes. The fighter who makes the audience want to read his/her book the most WINS. Now, let's witness their passion for books!
*No registration is necessary for the audience. In order to fairly evaluate the presentations, please come to J-Beans room before the battle starts.

Trial access to ProQuest One Academic (- Dec.23)

Trial access to the ProQuest One Academic database is available. You can use theses and dissertations from overseas, which are usually difficult to obtain. Please take this opportunity to try it out.

Change in the Loan Period for Reference Books

In order to give more students the opportunity to borrow the reference books listed in the syllabi, the loan period will be changed as follows:


Loan period  :  60 days --> 30 days
Date and time  :  9:00 a.m. on October 2, 2023
*The due date of the reference books checked out before the above date remains the original one.

We would appreciate your understanding on the matter.

Suspension of Air Conditioning at Night

As a measure to deal with rising electricity costs, the air conditioning in the library will be turned off at night as follows.
Please refrain from staying long hours at night.

Hours  :  22:00 - 8:30 the following day
Area  :  Whole Library (including Reading Rooms, Audio Visual Room & Group Study Spaces)

Binding Academic Journals (June 21 - September 15)

We are planning to bind academic journals as follows. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the unavailability of these journals and appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Materials to be bound Journals published from 2020 to 2021 in principle
 
Duration: June 21(Wed.) - September 15(Fri.), 2023

The binding is scheduled to be completed in the end of August. The bound journals will be shelved sequentially once the registration process is complete.
