Regarding Book Selection at the JAIST Book Fair

As for the acquisition of library materials, the books for students are selected based upon the recommendations by faculty members. We have planned a book selection opportunity by inviting books from booksellers. In this way, you can take a look at the actual books in your own hands to check the contents before the purchase.

Foreign books (about 350 books) mainly related in Knowledge Science and Information Science areas are invited on approval.
Please attend the event to help us with selecting books.

Note:

* Book purchase request by student:
JAIST students can attend the Book Fair and request the purchase of the books which support their study and research.

* Books for students:
For students’ study and research, those books are purchased on the budget distributed to the library, and have been placed on the shelves in the library.

* Book fair (Opportunity to check the actual books):
This is a system which provides you an opportunity to check the actual thing whether its content is as much as your expectation before deciding the purchase. Not all publishing companies provide the opportunity of this “Book Selection Procedures”.

Learning Commons Announces Nickname

In the library, upon opening the Learning Commons, we had invited suggestions for a nickname for the room from November 18 to December 2, 2011. We received 79 entries. We appreciate all of the many great ideas and suggestions that were submitted for the nickname for the Learning Commons.

The entries were discussed at the Library Governing Board the other day, and we inform you that the decision has been made for the nickname. The nickname has been decided as "J-BEANS (Jay Beans)" since the expression agreed best as the meaning of the Learning Commons and the impression of the room.
As for the nickname and its meaning, they are based on the suggestions of three entries: "JAIST Beans" (JAIST Staff, Name Not Disclosed), "Brainstorming, creative and relaxing room" (JAIST Student, Mr. Vu Luyen Thi) and "Soramame (a broad bean)" (JAIST Staff, Mr. Katsumi Toda). Please visit here for details.

We apologize that the announcement has taken much longer than anticipated.
