" Jaist Library News " is published on an irregular basis and provide you with information about Library services and materials.

The orientation of the library for new students will be held 7 times on the following schedule. In the orientation, we will explain how to use the library, search the materials and use the machines in the library.
So please come to the information desk five minutes earlier than each start time when it is convenient for you. (It will take about 30 minutes.)

JAIST Library have provided NACSIS-IR at fixed charge. You can search about 50 databases through the machine in your laboratories.

We also have provided the service of "Japanese Periodicals Index" on CD-ROM (1990-2001.7) in AV media room on the second floor, but "Japanese Periodicals Index" on-line has more records and covers the longer period (1975.1-current).

However, NACSIS-IR (at fixed charge) includes neither "Science Citation Index Expanded" nor "Social Science Citation Index". If you want to use them, you have to contract with NII.

New free access service of on-line journal, "SSH (Social Sciences and Humanities) collection (by Blackwell Publishers)", will start to be provided for faculty members and students in JAIST.

Please observe the following library rules. Thank you for your cooperation.

1. Don't leave your valuables unattended.
2. Don't occupy carrels or the seat of the reading room for many hours.
3. After you've finished with books or journals, put them back in the correct place. In particularly, return non-circulation materials immediately.
   If you can't find the designated shelf, place the books or journals in the "Return Rack".
4. Be quiet.
5. No eating, drinking or smoking.
