Professor MIYAKO's research project in the Materials Chemistry Frontiers Research Area has been selected for the FY2024 TeSH GAP Fund Program "Step 2".

The research project "Transcendent Bacterial Cancer Therapy" led by Prof. MIYAKO Eijiro, Materials Chemistry Frontiers Research Area, has been selected for the FY2024 GAP Fund Program "Step 2" under "Tech Startup HOKURIKU (TeSH)," a startup creation platform, with JAIST and Kanazawa University as its primary institutions and 11 universities and three technical colleges in the Hokuriku region as joint institutions.

In January 2024, TeSH was selected as one of the regional platforms for the JST's "Startup Ecosystem Co-Creation Program for the New Industry Creation Fund for University Startups (2023-2027)." The GAP Fund supported by TeSH has two funding stages: "Step 1" takes the results of basic research to the stage where we can evaluate the business potential, and "Step 2" supports the process from proof of concept to the formation of startups.

"Step 2", for which Prof. MIYAKO has been selected, provides up to 60 million yen in support over three years, with annual reviews to assess its continuation. The commercialization promotion organization, which is required to apply jointly, will be handled by "QB Capital LLC." They will be responsible for commercialization planning, business development, and matching management personnel (CEO).
Through the Step 2 program, Prof. MIYAKO and QB Capital LLC are expected to collaborate to create innovative JAIST startups.

The application for Step 1 of the FY2025 GAP Fund (support amount of 5 million yen for one year) will be open from January 7 to February 28, 2025.
We welcome applications from faculty and students (master's or PhD) who are motivated to give back to society the results of university research through the creation of startups and commercialization.
