【Greetings from Nguyen Truong Thang, President of the JAIST Vietnam Branch】
Dear Distinguished Professors, Guests and Research Fellows of JAIST Alumni, Vietnam Branch attending here at Movenpick Living West Hanoi and from abroad via online conference Zoom,

On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the First International Workshop on JAIST Alumni Day, September 28, 2024 in Hanoi, Vietnam, it is my pleasure to welcome all of you to this workshop.

With the rising awareness of the upcoming 4th Industrial Revolution in the world, there is a certain consensus among states that Science, Technology and Innovation is the key leverage for every nation to face the challenges from the revolution. The core technology of this IR4 lies on digital-based intelligence. In particular, Artificial Intelligence and Semiconductor Technology become the top areas for research and development at global stage, competition and even sanctions among world leading powers.

Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) has been actively engaged with Vietnam via various bilateral government-funded programs. There are around estimated about 200+ Vietnamese alumni completing their Masters and/or PhDs in JAIST, a very substantial number to Vietnam. More importantly, JAIST is a graduate research school focusing only some key areas, namely information technology, materials science and knowledge science, especially the top areas in the global race in STI like AI and semiconductor.

To promote its academic circle and to strengthen its R&D collaboration network, the First International Workshop on JAIST Alumni Day is proposed. This workshop is an opportunity for JAIST alumni in Vietnam and JAIST professors/researchers to present their work in the key topics and possibly to foster research collaboration. AI and semiconductor are among the top key R&D areas of JAIST and its Alumni in Vietnam. This is quite well fit to the current global trend and key strategies of Japan and Vietnam governments, their collaboration.

This workshop would not be possible without the active support from both sides Japan and Vietnam. In Vietnam, that is the sponsorship from Vietnam Academy Science and Technology, and Institute of Information Technology. Also, that is the active involvement of JAIST Alumni, Vietnam Branch. In Japan, the workshop bears its deepest appreciation to JAIST Executive Board. The workshop cannot be realized to this stage without the active contribution by the authors, PC members and of course, all the participants (offline and online).

I hope that this workshop will be fruitful and productive to all of us, relevant parties of both Vietnam and Japan.

I wish every success to the workshop and its speakers and participants.

Once again, many thanks to all of you, and enjoy the workshop. Best wishes to the workshop's success and participants.
