Mr. XIONG received Student Award in EM-NANO2023
Mr. XIONG, Wei (2nd-year doctoral student in Oshima Lab, Nanomaterials and Devices Research Area) received Student Award in The 9th International Symposium on Organic and Inorganic Electronic Materials and Related Nanotechnologies(EM-NANO2023).
EM-NANO2023 was held in Kanazawa City from June 5 to 8,2023. There were 300 presentations on research related to advanced materials and devices using these materials, of which about 140 were by students. Student Awards were given to 10 students who made outstanding presentations.

■Title
Ripple structure of MoS2 nanosheets evaluated by in situ stretching transmission electron microscopy

■Abstract
One of the structural novelties of 2D materials is the formation of atomic-scale ripple structures by stretching 2D materials. However, there are few experimental reports on such structures.
In this study, an in-situ transmission electron microscope (TEM) holder that enabled us to stretch the MoS2 nanosheet suspended between two electrodes was developed, and the atomic-scale rippled structure of the MoS2 nanosheet was successfully observed.
Analysis of the obtained TEM images revealed that the ripple structure forms along the armchair direction. By analyzing the TEM images using the geometric phase analysis (GPA) method, the period and amplitude of the ripple structure could be estimated. We estimated the period and amplitude of the ripple structure at 0.26%, 0.51%, 0.77%, and 1.02% tensile strain. The results showed that the MoS2 nanosheet exhibited a nonlinear mechanical response to tension.

It's my honor to receive the "Student Award" in EM-NANO2023. Participating in this academic conference has benefited me a lot. I have listened to many excellent presentations and read many creative posters at this conference. The experiences and conversations during this trip made me think more deeply about my research. I will also put the inspiration and ideas I got at this conference into practice in my future experiments. For this honor, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my supervisor, Prof. Yoshifumi Oshima, his profound knowledge gave me strong support in my study and research, his peaceful personality made me feel no pressure to get alone with him in life. I also want to thank Dr. Lilin Xie, a graduate of our lab, his research work has given me great convenience and confidence, and it has a great weight in this award I have received. Also, I'd like to thank assistant professor Kohei Aso and the laboratory members for their help in my life, study and research.
