Mr. Tran, Vu Duc (3rd year doctoral student in Nguyen Lab.) and Assoc. Prof. NGUYEN, Minh Le, Intelligent Robotics Area, achieved the highest performance on Task1 of the COLIEE Competition 2018.
COLIEE 2018 is the 5th Competition on Legal Information Extraction and Entailment, which include tasks on both a statute law and case law. This competition aims at finding AI techniques for dealing with legal case retrieval problem. COLIEE-2018 is co-located with JURISIN 2018 which focuses on both the fundamental and practical issues among people from the various backgrounds such as law, social science, information and intelligent technology, logic, and philosophy, including the conventional "AI and law" area.
Four tasks were included in COLIEE 2018. Participants choose the tasks which they would like to register and submit a paper on their method and experimental results.
The group of Assoc. Prof. NGUYEN, Minh Le achieved the highest performance on Task1.

Legal Information Retrieval with Summary and Logical Structure Analysis
■Outline of the method
We present our methods for solving the legal case retrieval and statute law retrieval tasks in Competition on Legal Information Extraction/Entailment, 2018. We explore the benefits of analyzing legal documents' summaries and logical structures to tackle these legal information retrieval tasks. Experiments on COLEE-2018 showed that the proposed system obtain very good results.
