Japanese Cultural Excursions(2018)

JAIST organizes Japanese Cultural Excursions for international students to deepen their understanding of Japanese and local culture, while also deepening their exchanges with Japanese students.

Excursion 1: Japanese Sweet Making Experience & Walking around Nagamachi District


Date: Friday, June 22 2018 (11:50~17:00)
Place: Kanko Bussankan Gift Shop & Activities, Nagamachi District
Participants: 15 International Students, 3 JAIST staff members

Itinerary:
11:50 JAIST→12:50 Kanko Bussankan (Japanese Sweets Making Experience)
14:20 Walking around Nagamachi
16:00 Nagamachi→17:00 JAIST

The 1st Japanese Cultural Excursion in this year was taken place on June 22, 2018. 15 International students visited Kanko Bussankan Gift Shop & Activities in Kanazawa and they had a Japanese Sweet Making Experience. All the participants got lectured how to make by a professional Japanese sweet making chef and perfectly made a seasonal high-grade Japanese-style Confectioneries named “Hydrangea”, “Green Plum” and “Uchuka (Flowers in the rain)” with a harmonious atmosphere. After the experience, they strolled around the Nagamachi District, Kanazawa.
Participant students from China, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Kenya, Italy, Cambodia, Thailand and Bangladesh deepened their exchange during the excursion, it was a meaningful opportunity for them to develop their understandings of Japanese culture.

Excursion 3 : Kutani-pottery & Sake Brewey Guide Tours

The 3rd Japanese Cultural Excursion of 2018:
Date: Friday, February 22,2019 (12:30~17:15)
Place: Kutani Kosen Kiln, Fukumitsuya sake brewery (Kanazawa)
Participants: 7 International Students ,4 JAIST staff members

Itinerary:
12:30 JAIST→13:20 Visiting Kutani Kosen Kiln
13:30 Kutani Kosen Kiln Pottery Guide tour
14:15 Walking around Nishi-Chaya District
15:00 Fukumitsuya Brewery Guide Tour
16:40 Fukumitsuya →17:15 JAIST

The 3rd Japanese Cultural Excursion in this year was taken place on February 22, 2019.7 International students visited Kutani Kosen Kiln and Fukumitsuya sake brewery, Kanazawa.
The Pottery Guide tour was conducted by the owner of pottery Kiln and they observed the manufacturing process. For his demonstration with hand potter’s wheel, they were surprised by his delicate movement and his beautiful works attracted the students.
At the Fukumitsuya, the oldest sake brewery in Kanazawa, they learned the process of sake production and the history. After kind explanation in the inside of the brewery, they really enjoyed tasting fresh junmai-sake.
The Participants from China, Vietnam, Thailand and Italy deepened their exchange during the excursion,
it turned into a meaningful time for them to develop their understandings of Japanese culture.
