New M1 students are warmly welcome to the Mizuta-Manoharan Lab Open event at 15:00 on Wednesday, April 27. Highly original research is going on here based on graphene and other monolayer materials for flavor sensors, lightning sensors, thermal diodes and valleytronics. Please register just by dropping an email to Prof. Mizuta (mizuta@jaist.ac.jp). Popping in without registration is also very welcome.

<Message from the graduates in March 2022>

I would like to express my deepest respect and gratitude to Prof.Mizuta, Dr. Manoharan and Dr. Kareekunnan. In terms of daily life, I learned how to survive at JAIST from senior students. Thanks to them Iam alive today. Also, they sometimes drove me to dinner. The classes progressed quickly and some were difficult. However, professors kindly taught me when I ask any question, and the seniors treated me to past exams. Actually these gifts were indispensable for me to become a half tuition waiver student. I am grateful to everyone in the laboratory for helping me. (Mr.Ishii)

I was involved in research on graphene sensors. There were various trial-and-error and conflicts, but I was able to experience a sense of accomplishment when I overcame them. There were many international researchers and students in the lab. I was worried at first because my English was not good, but they were very kind and supportive. I am truly grateful to my advisors and my friends. Life at JAIST was a very valuable experience for me, and I am glad that I joined Mizuta lab. Thank you very much. (Mr. Enomoto)

To Mizuta sensei and Manoharan sensei, thank you for your great help in my studies and life, I will always remember it in my heart. Maybe my personal abilities are not up to your expectations, but you still take the trouble to guide me. Please accept my sincerest gratitude. (Ms.Guo)

I conducted a research about first-principles calculation which was quite new to me. It was challenging and rewarding to learn a new thing. Also, I was able to improve my English and presentation skills in Mizuta lab because we have people from various countries. I enjoyed my life in JAIST with active and friendly colleagues. Thank you very much.(Mr.Nakamura)

"This research is a collaboration work with a company. We have to move forward without fail," these were Prof. Mizuta's words when I first discussed my research with him. It left a strong impression on me. Though his tone was calm, I felt his pride and determination as a researcher. These words supported me through my research. He also gave me guidance and advice not only regarding my research, but how to live in the society. The international researchers gave me lots of guidance and advice. In addition I looked forward to the traditional food they shared with us. I am proud to have been able to be a member of Mizuta Lab. Thank you to everyone for giving me invaluable time here. (Mr.Hamasaka)
