Dr. Donglin Jiang has been widely recognized as a distinguished scientist and a prominent leader in the field of two-dimensional Polymers - covalent organic frameworks (COFs). His research is focused on the design, synthesis, functional exploration, and application of 2D polymers and COFs with a wide range of building blocks covering simple arenes to large macrocycles. In particular, he has made significant contributions to the establishment of topological design of the polymers, the development of synthetic reactions for two-dimensional polymers and COFs, and a variety of different materials. As a breakthrough in functional exploration, he has elucidated the periodically structured π columns in COFs for high rate carrier transports, including hole, electron, and ambipolar conducting COFs. Dr. Jiang has developed donor–acceptor COFs with periodic, segregated, bicontinuous donor–acceptor arrays, which maximize the donor and acceptor interface, allow ultrafast photoinduced electron transfer, long-lived charge separation, and solar energy conversion. Dr. Jiang has explored the applications of COFs for high performance energy storages including supercapacitors and litium-ion batteris. Dr, Jiang has further extended the applications to proton conducting materials for next-generation fuel cells, recyclable organocatalysts, and carbon dioxide captures that may have practical implementations.

Dr. Jiang has pioneered the design, synthesis, and functional explorations of CMPs, which are a class of amorphous organic porous polymers that combine extended π conjugation and high porosity. Functions of CMPs including light-harvesting antennae, light-emitting materials, catalytic systems, supercapacitive ennery storage, superabsorption, solar cells have been explored in the group.

In 2006, Dr. Jiang received the Young Scientist Award, one of the most prestigious prizes for academic achievement in Japan. He is also a recipient of Wiley award, the Society of Polymer Science, Japan (SPSJ). Dr. Jiang has co-authored about 120 peer-reviewed journal papers.
