Hyakumangoku Festival: Kanzawa's Main Event!
百万石まつり (金沢市)
From June 12th to the 14th, Kanazawa celebrates its castle town
heritage by holding the 44th Hyakumangoku Festival. June 14th is the
day in which Maeda Toshiie, the first lord of the Kaga clan, entered
Kanazawa Castle from Nanao in the year 1583. The clan went on to rule
the Kanzawa area until the early Meiji Period, and made the city a
center of culture and education. The festival highlights many of
Kanzawa's fine traditional activities and cultures, and its climax is
the parade which reenacts Toshiie's procession into the city on June
14th. This is Kanazawa's biggest event held every year!
