The Japan Association for Language Teaching is an organisation dedicated to the improvement of language learning in Japan in which teachers can exchange ideas and techniques and keep abreast of new developments in the language-teaching field. There are currently close to 4000 members throughout Japan.
The Kanazawa branch of JALT meets once a month at the Ishikawa Shakai Kouiku Centre in Kanazawa, usually on the third or fourth Sunday. This year's presentations and workshops included subjects as diverse as east-west cultural differences, drama techniques in teaching and student journals. In October we were extremely forunate in being able to welcome to Kanazawa Andrew Wright, well-known in EFL circles as a writer, illustrator and story-teller. Andrew's presentation on story-telling in the classroom was well-received and attracted an audience of over sixty people.
Our 1996 presentations will begin with a session on creativity in the classroom on January 28. In February we will be considering video as a teaching tool.
