Q1.How can I find a material in the JAIST library?
A. | To find materials in JAIST, search the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). You can use it from terminals in the library, and also from your home via the Internet. |
Q2.How are books arranged?
A. | The specialized books of Materials Science (M00-94), Information Science (C20-62), and Mathematics (410-412) are classified according to JAIST Book Classification. The specialized books of Knowledge Science are arranged according to 'Nippon Decimal Classification (NDC)'. For more details on the position of books, please refer to Floor Guide. |
Q3.How long and how many materials can I check out?
A. | You can borrow up to 5 books for 14 days.
|
Q4.Can I check out journals?
A. | Sorry for inconvenience. We don't lend journals (including bound journals) to individuals who are not JAIST faculty or students. |
Q5.I failed to check out by the self-checkout machine.
A. | Please report the problem to the library counter staff during office hours. When the staff is not available, fill in the "Book Borrowing Record" located next to the machine. |
Q6.How do I check what materials I am borrowing now?
A. | Please ask the library staff by e-mail, or by phone. E-mail: toshokan@ml.jaist.ac.jp TEL: 0761-51-1191(Office Hours: 8:30 - 17:15 on weekdays) |
Q7.How do I return materials?
A. | Please put the materials in Book Return Box. When the box is full or the material is too big to put in, please hand it over to the library staff at the library information counter. If you have overdue materials, you cannot borrow another book by the self-checkout machine. In that case, return them not to the box but to the information counter for the immediate use of the machine. It takes time to process the materials put in Book Return Box. |
Q8.If I fail to return materials by due date, what will happen?
A. | We don't have an overdue penalty. But you cannot use the self-checkout machine and borrow any more materials until you return the overdue materials. If you don't return materials by the due date, it is inconvenient to other users as well. So, please ensure that the books are returned to the library by the due date. |
Q9.I lost the material I borrowed. What should I do?
A. | First, check it once again whether it is at your lab or at your home. If you cannot find the lost material although you search thoroughly, you have to make restitution of it. All of the library materials are important properties of JAIST and some of them are out of print and unobtainable. Be sure to treat the material you have been borrowing with care and responsibility. |
Q10.Can I use materials in a lab?
A. | Sorry for inconvenience. We don't lend materials in a lab to individuals who are not JAIST faculty or students. |
Q11.Can I request a material?
A. | Sorry for inconvenience. We don't accept requests from individuals who are not JAIST faculty or students. |
Q12.Where are the newspapers located?
A. | The newspapers of the latest 3 days are in the browsing area on the 1st floor. The back issues, up to 1 year old, are in the shelves in the copying Corner on the 3rd floor.
