Agenda
The objective of SIG -
Design Creativity is to study creativity in design. We have not
sufficiently clarified creativity, especially in the context of design,
although it is a very interesting characteristic in the thinking
process of humans.
This research discusses creativity in design instead of trying to
identify its standard characteristics. That is, it tries to answer the
question "What is design?" from the viewpoint of creativity, for two
perspectives.
First, this SIG discusses the characteristics of creative thinking
(i.e. creativity in synthesis) in the process of forming new concepts
rather than understanding it 'as is'. This means that, characteristics
of creativity in cognition and conceptual understanding (i.e.
creativity in understanding) are not the central scope of discussion in
this SIG, while pursuing them should help the SIG to clarify the
creativity of design.
Second, this SIG explores the characteristics that are common and
specific to diverse kinds of design, such as engineering and industrial
design.
We expect that the results of our study will help to clarify the "Essence of Design."
The focus in this SIG is posed on a series of questions including but not limited to the following:
Are there common aspects of creativity across different kinds of design?
Are there aspects of creativity specific to each kind of design?
Are these aspects of creativity specific to creating understanding (for
representing reality as is) or designs (for changing reality 'as should
be')?
