JAIST International Student News(2024)

We release the current statuses of international students in JAIST and the former international students of JAIST who are successfully working all over the world.

1. message from Alumni (Mr. WU, Xingchen)

Dear international students who plan to enroll in JAIST

I completed my master's and doctoral studies at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) and am currently a faculty member in the Department of Regional Studies, Faculty of Economics, Kanazawa Seiryo University.
My studies at JAIST and my experiences in Ishikawa have deeply influenced my career and outlook on life.

One of the features of JAIST that I would like to mention is the opportunity to learn to discover and utilize the potential resources of the region from diverse perspectives. In particular, in Shikida Laboratory, we conducted research to gain a deep understanding of regional characteristics and issues and link them to solutions and the creation of new value. Ishikawa Prefecture has a rich natural environment and traditional culture, and through exposure to these, I was able to cultivate a perspective to uncover the potential that lies within the region. This experience provided a valuable opportunity to exchange opinions with students from different backgrounds and to develop the ability to evaluate local resources from multiple perspectives.

What was also particularly impressive to me during my studies at JAIST was the research in Knowledge Science through a fusion of humanities and sciences approach. By incorporating a social science perspective in addition to expertise in the natural sciences, I was able to learn new methods and ways of thinking to solve complex social issues. Through my research experience in Shikita Laboratory, I was able to gain the diverse perspectives needed to solve local issues, and this has become the foundation for my current activities as a faculty member and my contributions to the community.

Currently, I am engaged in education and research activities as a faculty member of the Department of Regional Studies, Faculty of Economics, Kanazawa Seiryo University, while at the same time engaging in community activities in Ishikawa Prefecture. In my activities here, I have reaffirmed that the “Knowledge Science” approach I developed at JAIST is an important tool for improving the future of the region.

We hope that all international students will take full advantage of this favorable environment and expand their own possibilities through research and study. We hope that you will enjoy your life in Ishikawa, discover the unique characteristics and resources of the region, and make use of them in your research and future career.

Finally, I feel that studying at JAIST is not just “studying” but a great opportunity to gain a world-class perspective. I am confident that many new discoveries and challenges await you in this wonderful environment.
